K.C. Center for Family and Organizational Systems
The K.C. Center, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, provides educational and training programs in Bowen family systems theory. The K.C. Center is dedicated to accurately representing, teaching, applying, and expanding Bowen family systems theory in the regional area. A variety of programs is offered to provide something for all individuals of varied backgrounds.
Bowen family systems theory is a theory of human behavior and defines the family as an emotional unit. The theory holds the individual is part of a broader family relationship system with interdependent members. It describes how the process between individual members profoundly affects and ultimately guides individual functioning. The complicated system of exchanges between family members leads to the family being a resource and/or to the development of symptoms. Theory provides a way of accounting for these differences in individuals and families. An understanding of and application of Bowen family systems theory principles, concepts, and ideas can lead to more effective options for managing life’s challenges in the family and workplace.
The K.C. Center was founded in 1996 and is located on the Maple Woods Community College campus in the Northland Human Services Center at 3100 NE 83rd street in Kansas City, Missouri. It is a member of the National Network Seminar of Bowen family systems theory programs.
Individuals participating in K.C. Center programs represent a large diversity of professional backgrounds including behavioral health, medicine, education, business, clergy, and other family serving professionals. The commonality is interest in learning and applying systems thinking to their personal and professional lives.
